GMV Max Automations
Ad automation rules watch your TikTok GMV Max campaigns around the clock and act on your behalf. Instead of manually digging through creatives to find which videos deserve more spend — and which ones are quietly burning budget — you set the thresholds once and Cruva handles the rest.
There are two types of GMV Max automations:
- Boosting automations find your top-performing creatives and automatically put ad spend behind them.
- Exclusion automations (beta) remove underperforming creatives — or videos from specific creators — from your campaign entirely.
You'll find both under Ads → Automations in your dashboard. Automation rules are available on the Scale plan.
Boosting automations
A boosting automation scans the creatives in a GMV Max campaign, and whenever a video meets your performance criteria, it starts a boost — dedicated daily ad spend on that specific video. Each boost keeps running until your exit conditions kill it, a spend cap is hit, or its scheduled duration ends.
Start conditions
Start conditions define what "winning" means for you. Build them from any of these metrics: ROI, Revenue, Orders, Spend, CTR, CVR, and CPA — each with an operator (≥, >, ≤, <, =) and a value. For example: ROI ≥ 2 AND Orders ≥ 5. You can combine multiple conditions with AND (all must be true) or OR (any one is enough).
Performance is evaluated over a lookback period you choose (days, weeks, or months), so a video that crushed it three months ago but has gone cold won't keep qualifying.
Budget controls
Three settings keep spend in check:
- Per-video daily budget — how much each boosted video gets per day (minimum $10, per TikTok's API).
- Max total budget — a hard ceiling on cumulative spend across all boosts from this rule. Once hit, no new boosts start. Leave it blank for no ceiling.
- Max concurrent boosted videos — how many videos can be boosted at the same time (1–100).
Exit conditions
Exit conditions are the kill triggers. When a boosted video trips one — say ROI ≤ 1.5 or Spend > $100 — the boost stops. Exit conditions default to OR logic, so any single trigger is enough to end a boost.
You can also set a max spend per video, which kills a boost once its total spend reaches that amount regardless of performance.
Schedule
Choose how long each boost runs:
- Boost until exit conditions kill it — boosts run continuously and only stop when an exit condition or spend cap is hit.
- Boost for a fixed number of days — each boost runs for a set duration, then stops automatically (exit conditions can still end it earlier).
One word of caution: if you pick the continuous schedule with no exit conditions and no max spend per video, your boosts will never stop on their own. The configurator warns you about this — always give each boost at least one kill trigger.
Exclusion automations
Exclusion automations do the opposite: they remove creatives from a GMV Max campaign. This is useful for cutting videos that eat spend without converting, or for keeping certain creators out of your ads altogether. Exclusion rules can target a single campaign or all of your GMV Max campaigns at once.
There are two exclusion methods:
- By performance — remove videos that trip your thresholds, e.g. Spend > $1,000 AND ROI < 1. Metrics are evaluated over the lookback window you set. You can also add a trial period, so only videos posted at least X days ago are eligible — giving new creatives time to prove themselves before they can be cut.
- By creator blacklist — remove every video from creators you select. Add creators by handle, CSV upload, or straight from your CRM (up to 10,000 handles). Optionally limit removal to recently posted videos, or leave it blank to remove a blacklisted creator's videos regardless of age.
Keep in mind: exclusion is permanent — removed videos don't come back to the campaign. Exclusion only applies to auto-selection product GMV Max campaigns.
Setting up a rule
Go to Ads → Automations and click Create rule.
Give the rule a name, pick the automation type (boosting or exclusion), and select the GMV Max campaign it applies to. Only Product GMV Max campaigns are eligible.
Set a status: Active rules run immediately, Paused rules are saved but idle, and Drafts let you finish the setup later.
Walk through the remaining steps — conditions, budgets, and schedule for boosting; exclusion method and thresholds for exclusion — and click Create rule.
You can edit, pause, or delete a rule at any time from the rules page. If you turn off a rule that has active boosts running on TikTok, you choose what happens: pause the rule and let the current boosts finish, or kill all its boosts immediately.
Tracking results
The rules page shows the combined impact of your automations at a glance: revenue generated, total ad spend, orders generated, and the number of active boosts. Click into any rule for a full breakdown of its boost sessions — every video it boosted, what it spent, what it earned, and why each boost ended (exit condition met, max spend hit, duration finished, or budget exhausted).
That's the whole idea: define what a winner looks like, define what a loser looks like, cap the budget — and let the automation handle the busywork while you watch the results roll in.
